Identify the structures in section of brain
Hi! Please try to identify the structures in the horizontal section of brain image from Netter's atlas
a) which of these structures is supplied by posterior cerebral artery?
b) which of these structures when affected in epilepsy, produce loss of recent memory?
c) Which of these structures make you turn your head while you see that 'beautiful' passing by at the corridor?
d) which of these structures when degenerated, may make you dance crazily?

Hi Doc,
ReplyDeleteJust to give it a shot! The structures are
A-Hippocampus
B-Caudate nucleus
C-Choroid plexus of Lat ventricles
D-Superior colliculus
E-Corpus callosum
F-Thalamus(pulvinar)
G-Cerebellum(?post lunate fissure)
As for the questions,
a)PCA supplies midbrain(D-superior colliculus is part of midbrain), and also the thalamus(F)
b)Hippocampus(A) is often affected in epilepsy, and it controls learning, memory and recognition
c)Occipital eye fields?turning your head involves the accessory nerve? lateral conjugate gaze is at the abducent nucleus of the pons? i'm not too sure about this one
d)dancing crazily or chorea as in huntingtons is the degeneration of ach and gaba neurons in the striatum, hence it is the caudate nucleus (B)
Thanks!:D
Hi Chia
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, all are correct.I am so glad
b) Hippocampus-Add: only short-term memory
C) when a visual signal requires movement of head & neck (Sterno-mastoid or trapezius), it acts through superior colliculus. Reflex movements in relation to vision is through superior colliculus.
Cheers
Nilesh
Sir
