Joints

Hi Can you comment on the types of the joints found in between two vertebrae?
You can think of joint between articular processess
You can think of intervertebral disc in between two bodies
You should choose out of the following types--Fibrous/Cartilaginous/Synovial--Under Cartilaginoous: Primary & Secondary, Under Synovial: Plane, Ball& Socket, Condylar, Ellipsoid,Pivot etc.

  1. The ones between the two articular processes are synovial joints whose movements depend on shape and the direction of the articular surfaces;

    The joint that involves the intervertebral disc is probably secondary cartilaginous as it allows for movements of vertebrae, unlike a primary cartiliginous joint which allows for no movement.

  2. Yes there are three joints between two vertebrae--two of them are FACET joints (between articular processes of vertebrae) which are synovial joints, one of them is Secondary cartilagionous or Symphysis (Intervertebral Disc joining two vertebral bodies)
